Conference: Heroic?! On the Ambivalence of the Heroic
From March 13 to 15, 2026, Prof. Dr. Karoline Reinhardt, together with Dr. Katharina Naumann and Laura Martena, will lead a conference on the ambivalence of the heroic at the Akademie für Politische Bildung in cooperation with the Universität Passau and the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. Those interested are requested to register by March 6.
Through interdisciplinary expert lectures, interactive workshops, and a “future lab,” the conference will take a critical look at the concept of the heroic and explore the complex relationship between democracy and heroism. Can we move beyond historical notions of heroes, which were often associated with masculinity and nationalism? Do democratic societies depend on heroic role models? And which values and virtues might heroes embody today?
