Formats of research-based learning are appropriate where, as in Passau, in the area of regional and diocesan history, numerous source holdings have hardly or not at all been evaluated. Therefore, seminars and advanced seminars, especially in cooperation with the diocesan archives, often aim at the indexing and evaluation of such source holdings in order to enable students to gain their own research experience and, if possible, publication experience at an early stage.
