In teaching, the history of the Middle Ages (ca. 500 to 1550) is presented in spatial and temporal breadth. Lectures and seminars deal with topics and theories of cultural and religious history of the Middle Ages in Passau, Europe and beyond.
The main areas of research are ecclesiastical and political history of the High Middle Ages as well as micro-studies on society. In his habilitation thesis in Tübingen, Professor Dr Kohl compares conflict management in Germany and France around 1100.
