We warmly congratulate Dr Regina Holze on the publication of her book Speech Acts in Securitization: Strategies in British Government Communication in the COVID-19 Pandemic. Based on her doctoral thesis, the book examines how securitizing processes are linguistically constructed in British government communication during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on a corpus of official statements and a pragmatic analysis of speech acts, Holze sheds light on how language was used to frame the pandemic as a security issue and to communicate government responses to the crisis.
