8th edition of the Staatslexikon der Görres-Gesellschaft (State Encyclopedia of the Görres Society)

The Staatslexikon (state encyclopedia) is a traditional publication that provides orientational knowledge on social, legal, political and business issues and is intended for a broad, not necessarily academic, readership.
The Görres Society has taken the decision of writing an 8th edition. To this end, a co-ordinating office was set up at the University of Passau under the leadership of Professor Heinrich Oberreuter. The team is the organisational and communication centre and is responsible for the wording of the encyclopedia entries as well as co-ordinating the processes.
The 8th edition, which spans five volumes, will comprise nearly 2,000 entries from a wide range of academic disciplines. The central topics in the encyclopedia are set by a committee of 18 experts in the areas of business, economics, education, history, law, philosophy, political science, social ethics, sociology and theology. The co-ordinating office is in constant exchange with these specialist writers to ensure that the high standing of this publication is maintained in its 8th edition.
As this is the first new edition in the 21st century, the authors wish to use the new distribution opportunities offered by the new media. The new edition is therefore planned as a print edition and an online edition in co-operation with Herder-Verlag, the publishing house.
