Please note the guidelines and recommendations from academic advice services [German content] regarding the culture-specific study project or the major field trip associated with the study project.
A study project involves the student conducting empirical work with a scientific basis in the chosen cultural area under the supervision of a university instructor responsible for said cultural area (minimum duration: 8 days). The study project/required field trip of at least 8 days should introduce students to the chosen cultural area through selected questions, thus deepening their familiarity with it in the same way studying abroad would do.
The study project creates broad opportunities for academic research questions, which should be discussed with the supervisor before spending a period abroad. The study project differs from an academic term paper primarily in its empirical-documentary character. It does not focus on an intensive study of written sources and secondary literature, but rather involves field studies (on-site research, discussions with relevant individuals, interviews, research on material culture, examinations of institutions, etc.). The scientific basis of the project (theoretical reflections and engagement with relevant studies) remains unaffected by this.
The project outline should be submitted in advance and be structured as follows:
| Day | Activity and Location | Objective(s) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ||
| 2 | ||
| 3 | ||
| ... |
Upon completion, students must submit a report on the study project (outline, timeline, description and results of the project, literature references). Additional documentary evidence (e.g., photos, brochures, excerpts from interviews) may be included.
To confirm the successful completion of the study project, please submit the completed application for recognition of study periods, study credits, and examinations to the chair. Along with the application, please submit the designated form, which should be used to record the exact dates of the project.
