Higher Education Teaching Profile

Key Areas and Fields of Practice

My key areas in higher education didactics are constructive alignment and competence-oriented teaching and assessment. This focus is reflected across all fields of practice—from the planning of my own courses and the facilitation of learning processes in workshops to my involvement in programme development.

One central objective is not only to design university teaching in a competence-oriented way, but also to establish a transparent and coherent alignment between teaching, learning, and assessment. My own scholarship of teaching and learning projects therefore address topics such as alternative forms of assessment or the question of what constitutes a competence-oriented lecture and how it can be implemented in everyday academic practice. Collegial feedback from fellow instructors is just as valuable in this regard as the insights students provide into their individual learning paths. Both inform my own teaching as well as my work with instructors from various disciplines in the workshops I offer as a multiplier in higher education didactics.

Milestones of recent years include:

  • Coaching the leadership team of the higher education didactics programme “Theologie lehren lernen” (since 2021).
  • Providing didactic consultation to the working group of the German Bishops’ Conference on the development of the accommodation decree for Veritatis Gaudium (2019–2021).
  • Serving as higher education didactics consultant to the Sponsoring Commission for Early Career Support and Higher Education Didactics of the German Bishops’ Conference (since 2018).
  • Developing the advanced higher education didactics module “Certificate in Theological Didactics” together with the team of the Centre LEHRE+ Higher Education Didactics at the University of Passau. This programme offers instructors an opportunity to further develop their professional role and repertoire of practices. Its aim is to professionalise teaching in higher education and pastoral contexts by strengthening teaching, assessment, and advisory competencies on the basis of a theology-sensitive approach to higher education didactics.
  • Co-directing the higher education didactics programme “Theologie lehren lernen,” re-accredited in 2014, under the auspices of the Association of Catholic Faculties of Theology and the German Bishops’ Conference—a foundational module in higher education didactics tailored specifically to the needs of doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers in theology (2011–2018).
