A Board of Examiners is instated to organise and implement assessments. The Board of Examiners ensures compliance with the provisions of the study and examination regulations. The Central Examinations Office provides organisational and administrative support to the Board of Examiners.
On receipt of an application, the Board of Examiners decides on the recognition of coursework and assessments as well as any related ECTS credits earned in another subject/degree course or, as the case may be, at any other university in Germany or abroad or even outside the university setting.

Serious problems on the examination day
If you are unable to attend an examination date (due to sudden illness or an accident, for example), please inform the Examinations Office without undue delay and, if possible, the examiner. Documentary evidence, in the form of a medical certificate for example, must be provided to justify your absence (if need be, on the next day).
Problems with the material covered by the examination
Take advantage of the advice and support provided by professors and staff during their drop-in hours! Keep in contact with your examiner particularly ahead of written examinations (papers for admission to the state examination, Magister, Diplom, master’s theses and bachelor’s dissertations)!
Financial hardship
Special grants and loans are available for the final stages of a degree programme. For details please contact the BAföG Office or the Scholarships Office. To obtain such funding, you will need to submit a summary report drawn up by your examiner.
Psychological problems
The Psychological Counselling Service offers professional help in the event of psychological problems associated with examinations, such as exam nerves. Appointments can be scheduled by e-mail. Counselling is free of charge.
Modified Bavarian formula

Modified Bavarian formula
The modified Bavarian formula is used to convert grades for coursework and assessments completed abroad:
x = sought value in grading scale used by the University of Passau
Nmax = highest possible grade (best grade) in the applicable grading scale
Nd = grade to be converted
Nmin = lowest passing grade in the applicable grading scale
The highest possible grade and the lowest passing grade are taken from Anabin, the information portal for foreign systems of education (only German).
Only one digit after the decimal point is taken into account for conversion. All other digits are eliminated without rounding. If the resulting value lies between two grades in the University of Passau's marking system, it is rounded to the next higher grade for the benefit of the student.
Grade points used by the Faculty of Law
In connection with the recognition of coursework and assessments for degree programmes at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the following conversion table (only in German) is used to convert grade points earned at a faculty of law either at the University of Passau or at any other university.
